MIDO, as a major international event, has a very high responsibility in terms of its impact on the environment. For that, it is particularly sensitive to all those activities that can reduce the consequences that the implementation of such a large event may have on the environment and the community. Events like MIDO that cater to the participation of many attendees generate a consistent environmental and social impact. Trying to limit this impact is not only an opportunity but also a duty, just as it is incumbent upon the organizer to increase the awareness of exhibitors, suppliers and visitors, and turn them into ambassadors for sustainability.
For these reasons, MIDO has decided to take several actions that are not only related with the fair itself but are also concerned more broadly with minimizing the consequences of the event, involving stakeholders, the entire team, and collaborators to share the path toward ISO 20121:2012 certification, which attests to the sustainable management of large events.
Timeline:
2019: started the path to sustainability and company transparency; Plastic Free and those related to waste of water, paper, food, and energy policies implemented; Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct approved.
2021: MIDO 2021 | Digital Edition is the first virtual eyewear exhibition to be certified through strict inspection and testing by ISF CERT, to guarantee proper, uniform and transparent measurement of pertinent information to represent the “dimensions” of the virtual trade event, as occurs with the physical show. It also obtained the ISO 20121 certification for sustainability with Bureau Veritas Italia (assessment and analysis of risks related to quality, environment, health, safety, and social responsibility).
2022: MIDO gained two certifications, the ISO 20121 which attests to the sustainable management of large events with Bureau Veritas, and the ISF CERT of the statistic data, according to the ISO 25639 standard.
2023: ISO 20121 certification is maintained thanks in part to numerous initiatives such as
for exhibitors, the Stand up for Green competition that recognizes the stand that employs the most eco-sustainable practices (click here for the winner) and CSE Certified Sustainable Eyewear which, on the other hand, evaluates frames, lenses and cases made always in accordance with the principles of sustainability. for visitors, free transportation provided - trains from Napoli, Roma, Firenze, Bologna, Venezia, Torino, airport and city-center shuttles, free coach service for optics and optometry schools;
for all industry professionals, events on sustainability have been planned in the Otticlub space which can be rewatched on the digital platform until December 2023;
for the public, throughout the year, MIDO supports the activities of the CDV Onlus (free vision screening by ophthalmologists and opticians in various Italian cities and schools).
